Your hive inspections,
Captured Hands-Free.
WaggleScribe is a hands-free beekeeping app helping you turn your voice into detailed database records. Manage your apiary without ever removing your gloves.
Tired of taking your gloves off to take notes?
Streamline your inspections with my intelligent voice-to-data app designed by a beekeeper, for beekeepers. 100% hands-free!
Natural voice-first controls
Start Wagglescribe and just speak naturally as you inspect. WaggleScribe isolates bee hum and background noise to capture every observation accurately, using cutting edge voice models.
- No fixed order or special vocabulary required — Wagglescribe is trained to understand the natural way a beekeeper describes their inspections.
- Wide language support: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
- Bluetooth earbuds and microphones are supported, for users who prefer those.
Your own apiary database
All metrics are automatically parsed, and stored in your local database. Search, filter and view charts of your data. Want to see the mite counts in a specific apiary, between two specific dates? No problem.
Truly Offline Intelligence
No internet required. Wagglescribe is developed to use on-device intelligence - you will never have to pay for tokens, or connect to someone's server. Run Wagglescribe as often and as much as your heart desires.
A large effort has been put into making Wagglescribe as fast as possible. This is one of very few apps that let you run unlimited AI models offline, on your own device.
You can export your database at any time. Part of this offline-first philosophy is to put you in control. Export allows you to combine it with other tools, such as spreadsheets, or anything else you might come up with!
So how do I use it?
While other apps have tried to solve the issue of gloves and sticky phones with QR codes and large interfaces, Wagglescribe uses none of that. Instead, you simply:
Start Wagglescribe, place your phone in your breast pocket (or wherever you like), and go inspect your apiary.
At each hive, simply say a phrase like "Start inspection" and you will hear a confirmation cue. Then talk, as if explaining to a bystander what you are doing! Once done say "Stop inspection", and proceed to the next hive. Wagglescribe will hear which hive in which apiary you are working with.
Once done, put the phone down, hit Process, go make a coffee and come back to structured inspections safely stored in your database!
Why design it this way?
My goal was to truly make this app better than pen and paper, and therefore it needed to be entirely hands free. That means no tags, no QR codes, no large interface elements, and it must be reliable. I wanted to create an app that solved my own issues in the apiary - I would forget details before the end of my visit, and I would be annoyed with cumbersome gloves while writing. My inspection cards were often filled with notes scrawled in the margins due to a lack of space. And I would flip through pages of notes at home, searching for that one thing I couldn't quite remember.
I also wanted to make an app that gives the user great control, respects their data, and doesn't rely on any external resources. A significant portion of the development has been spent optimizing the performance of the app. Offline AI will never match the sheer speed of a huge server, but in return you pay nothing for the compute costs.
Turn Noise into Knowledge.
WaggleScribe doesn't just store notes; it lets you analyze trends across your entire apiary. Track varroa mite counts, queen right status, and brood frame counts with minimal effort. I have also been hard at work creating a sensible grading feature for temperament (behaviour) and brood patterns.
Temperament Grading
Automatically classify your colonies on a 1-5 scale depending on how you describe their behaviour.
Brood Pattern Grading
The way you describe the pattern and nature of the brood lets Wagglescribe grade it 1-5.
Temperament charting example.
Temperament grading for two of my colonies in april. At the end of the season I chart all my colonies like this, to help me determine which ones to requeen and which ones to use as breeding stock.
